1. The critical attributes strategy is a teaching strategy that focuses on taking the knowledge you know and weighing the factors to be able to accurately conceptualize the information and make informed decisions. It urges students to be rational in their decision making.

3. In this topic I am constantly reminded of a personal experience. I grew up on Cape Cod, where I didn’t see too many homeless people that often. I remember driving with my dad to the closest Cumberland Farms to my house on a very hot and muggy summer day. As I sat in the air conditioned truck my dad went inside to get us some drinks. On his way in I saw him talk to a man on the side walk, then walk in the store. Upon exiting the store he stopped and gave the man five dollars, then hopped back into his truck and drove away. As a young and naïve girl from Cape Cod, I chuckled when my dad started to drive away. When he asked me what was so funny I was like “Why would you give that guy money, you probably just bought that guy another 2 beers” He then looked at me and said, “I said hi to the guy on my way in, and asked him how he was…. And he replied ‘hot’. Its almost 100 degrees outside, if he buys a drink at least he will not get dehydrated, and I know I didn’t just walk away”. My dad really put into perspective of the fact that it was so hot out and the man had nowhere to go but in the scorching sun. It didn’t matter to my dad what the man bought, that was the decision of the man on the sidewalk whether to buy a beer or water.
4. I think that passion fuels interest, so therefore increases motivation. When dealing with a passionate subject, one must be careful not to hold bias opinions. Often times it is easy to only hear what you want to in a situation where passion is present.
5. To avoid a discussion turning into a debate teachers should carefully analyze facts and concepts. They should maintain their own and students’ empathy for an individual’s unpopular idea. Teachers should help to create a democratic classroom that allows students to be open to new ideas. They should promote a democratic ideology, but allow undemocratic ideas as a tool for learning. Teachers must also strive for efficiency, and focus on important aspects of conversation.
